As I was going through the astrological forecast for this year, I saw so many ways that I could use the major transits to plan out the year for my business. There’s something fun and unique about getting business goals to align with the stars.
2020 was an exercise in patience. Not one of us was spared the rollercoaster of emotions, setbacks, and challenges brought to our doorstep courtesy of 2020. Our daily life, careers, friendships, and holidays all took on a distinctly different color than any of us anticipated.
During that time of upheaval, I found a lot of joy in astrology – using it as a creative way to journal through the chaos and see life’s events from a fresh perspective. Studying the stars gave me a feeling that each day was part of a larger universal story.
2021 has its own adventures in store, but it’s going to be a year of taking what we’ve learned from the past and using it as a catalyst to switch things up and make really meaningful progress. This is a time for collective healing.
I’m excited to share these magical dates with you and what it could mean for your brand and business.
On each transit date, I’ll be posting a little bit about its deeper meaning and some tips to make the most of that time, with journaling prompts and rituals to tap into the magic of your business.
We start this month in Capricorn, the wise and enduring achiever. This is (obviously) a great time to tap into that entrepreneurial side of ourselves and set overarching goals for the year.
On January 20, we move into Aquarius, the visionary reformer. During this time, re-evaluate those goals in relation to your larger values and life purpose. Does each one bring you closer to the person you want to be? Make sure your goals evolve into intentions during this time, so that you can see the larger picture and persevere even when life throws you a curve ball.
The big event this month is when Uranus (the planet that represents unexpected changes, revolutions, and tension in life) stations direct on January 14. While in retrograde, it focused on reflection and learning, but now that it will be direct in Taurus, it’s about integrating those lessons and taking action. Taurus prompts us to pay attention to routines, so this is a month to take inventory of how you’re spending your time – the morning hours, your evening rituals, habits in your workday, and the ways in which you show up for the things you commit to.
There are three repeating transits between Saturn and Uranus that will happen in February, June, and December. The first one will happen on February 17, and the energy between these transits is going to be conflicting and intense. But most importantly, it’s about change – so take some time to reflect on what you want to change – what’s within your control and what might be standing in your way. This would be a good time to really solidify those intentions you have for the year and consider how you want your life and business to look by the end of 2021.
For me, February is when my year officially starts. I treat January like a catch-up month and relieve some of that post-holiday pressure. Based on this year’s astrology, it’s not a bad start date for 2021.
On February 19, we move into Pisces season, the magical dreamer. It’s a time to invest in creativity and the things that inspire us. Maybe you want to take a workshop or art class, buy a beautiful coffee table book, or get a new notebook to write down your dreams and ambitions.
On another note, Mercury is retrograde for a majority of this month. Mercury is the planet that rules communication, so when it goes retrograde, those communication channels can get a bit wonky – meaning misunderstood text messages, typos in emails, and cloudy content creation. So I’d suggest batching content and social media captions in January and double checking those emails before hitting send this month!
March 20 is the astrological New Year when the sun enters Aries, a sign full of motivation, passion, and take-charge momentum. During this starry start to the Zodiac season, take time to consider what motivates you. Are there any habits or rituals that you can have on standby for when productivity start to feel slow?
On April 20, we enter Taurus season, the sign of the gardener and cultivator. As we move into the Spring season, how are your actions tending to the garden of your goals? Are you using your time to support your larger ambitions? Are you putting in the energy and resources to foster your friendships and nurture your creativity?
On April 23, Mercury (the communication planet) meets in Venus (the planet of aesthetics), while Uranus (the planet of unexpected change) is in Taurus (the sign of cultivation). This is an opportunity to examine your values and how you’re living them out.
So consider – does your brand or business have a list of values that you stand by? Why are they important to you, and how do they show up in the way you conduct yourself in every single part of your customer or client experience?
At the end of the month, Pluto (the planet of transformation) goes retrograde in Capricorn (the sign of wisdom) and it’s a powerful time for making big and meaningful changes. If the values exercise brought up some things that need your attention, now’s the time to do it!
On May 13, Jupiter (the planet of growth and healing) enters Pisces (the sign of dreaming and illumination), bringing sharp intuition and good instincts. If there’s something you’ve had a particular feeling about or a gut instinct leads you to say no to an opportunity, be sure to listen this month.
Saturn (the planet of responsibility and discipline) goes retrograde at the end of the month, meaning it might be harder than usual to stick to your routine. It’s a practical time to consider the steps you’ll need to take to reach your goals.
On May 21, we go into Gemini season, the storyteller and analyst. This might be a good time to reintroduce your audience to your brand, the products and services you offer, and the reason you started your business in the first place.
At the beginning of the month, we have a solar eclipse in Gemini that prompts us to examine our communities. Are you feeling supported in your business? Might be a good time to join a new group or network.
Mid-month we have the second major transit between Saturn and Uranus, so take a look at what’s been going on between February and now. Are there any 2021 goals that you need to let go of?
At the end of the month, Jupiter (the planet of growth and healing) goes retrograde, Mercury (the planet of communication) goes direct, and Neptune (the planet of dreams) goes retrograde resulting in a confusing feeling of both scarcity and abundance. Be sure to pay attention to the details of your goals. You may not be able to make big leaps towards your annual intentions this month, just be flexible and take it one day at a time. Small steps forward are still progress.
On June 22, we go into Cancer, a season of sensitivity and nurturing. This would be a good time to journal through your experiences and pay attention to how you feel in your day-to-day routines.
Is your business bringing you joy? If not, maybe you explore how to move towards joy for the remainder of the year.
This month is a bit slow, but you’ll get a burst of motivation mid-month as Venus (the planet of aesthetics) meets Mars (the planet of ambition and action) in confident Leo (the sign of self-expression and confidence.) Have a personal project in mind? Do it this month!
We enter Leo season on July 23, the charismatic leader and shining star. This is the season to really put yourself out there even if you don’t feel like an expert or professional yet. We’ve all felt like imposters at one time or another, but confident Leo encourages us to step into the spotlight anyways.
Things start to get a bit hectic when Uranus (the planet of unexpected changes – man it keeps popping up this year!) goes retrograde at the end of the month, prompting five other planets to move backwards as well. It may be a good time to get in that end-of-summer vacation if you start to feel a bit burned out by the daily hustle.
Consider calling your business friends and coordinating a creative retreat to rekindle your motivation, encourage each others’ growth, and take a moment to rest.
We move into Virgo season on August 23, the discriminating thinker and natural giver. Show some extra love to your audience during this time, creating content that serves their needs and builds trust as we enter the final months of the year.
On September 23, we move into Libra season, the diplomat, artist, and peacemaker. This is a fantastic time to update your website and brand materials, getting ready for the holiday rush. Libra is all about balance and aesthetics, and following the discerning energy of Virgo – you’re ready to polish your online presence.
We’ve got another nice Mercury retrograde at the end of the month, so be sure to double check your emails and social media captions to get your true point across.
Momentum ramps back up this month as the planets that went haywire in late August station back direct.
On October 24, we go into magical Scorpio season, the therapist, researcher, and strategist. It’s not too early to start making plans for 2022, especially if you plan to launch anything for the new year. Web designers and brand strategists tend to fill up during these months, so be proactive if you want to make a significant change before January.
We have a major eclipse on November 19, allowing us to release anything that didn’t go as planned this year, and make space to plan for 2022. The things that caught us off guard have the power to transform into something more beautiful than we could have imagined.
On November 22, we enter Sagittarius, the seeker and adventurer. What new things could you try before the years’ end? Is there a place you want to visit, a class you want to take, or a project you want to try? This is the season to do it, and may just result in some end-of-year products and memories you weren’t expecting 🙂
Neptune (the planet of dreams) stations direct on the first of the month, giving us clarity and focus as we look to the year ahead. Pull out the goal setting workbooks and vision boards during the eclipse on December 4, and hold on for the final major transit between Saturn and Uranus on Christmas Eve, a time to look back on the entire year and see how far you’ve come.
We enter back into Capricorn season on December 22, so take all you’ve learned with your journey in the stars over the year as you prep and prepare for a new one!
