Travel Storie: My Life in Montana

“And suddenly you know… It’s time to start something new and trust the magic of beginnings.”

As the last working day of the year comes to an end (I know, I know, I tried to work less Saturdays this year…) I wanted to take a moment to reflect on this year – the highs, the lows, the changes, and the experiments. I often feel that time moves so quickly as a business owner, that I rarely take time to reflect on what’s happened before blazing the trail of a new year. But 2018 brought some major changes for me and the studio, and I want to share what I’ve learned along the way.

The Enneagram

This year was truly the year of the Enneagram. Over the holidays last year, I devoured every Enneagram book I could get my hands on, which resulted in our most popular blog series and an online course. After taking a few months off from research, I’m diving back in to the world of the Enneagram to see what is new and add new ideas to our existing course!

Book Club

We started the Drop Cap book club this past February, but it quickly fizzled out. This was an idea that didn’t feel like it flowed as well. I don’t want to completely throw it out, but Instagram video turned out to not have the same feeling as an in-person book club and lacked the community experience I was craving. I’m going to rethink this concept in the next few months and maybe bring it back in a new way.

Montana Move

In July I made the move to Montana for a six-month trial run. I wanted to try living in a more remote environment, get away from the city hustle, and enjoy a more active lifestyle. Montana was all of that and more! As we get closer to the end of the six months, I can’t quite imagine leaving this glorious place. There were a few learning curves running the studio from so far away with my entire team still in Dallas, but we’ve found a way to work around it (thank you Slack!) and I’ve felt the freedom of being independent from a physical studio and geographic location.

Victoria came on our team this year as a project manager and marketing assistant! Truly I do not know what I would do without her. She is the best thing that’s ever happened to the studio, and also works with both Tyler and the full Modern Huntsman team. At this point, Victoria feels like family and I have felt confident trying new things with the studio this year knowing she’s on my team 🙂

Modern Huntsman

We released Volumes one and two of Modern Huntsman this year, one of the most challenging and rewarding projects to date! I’ve enjoyed getting to work alongside Tyler as we produce such a massive project twice a year, and can’t wait to see what the next year holds as I take on a more involved position with the company (more on that coming soon!)

Digital Shop

This summer we launched the Drop Cap Digital Shop where you can purchase easy-to-use digital templates for all of your small business needs. We plan to add to this shop in 2019 and continue to create ways for you to start an online brand on a lean budget.

European Adventure

I told myself at the beginning of 2018 that I wanted to prioritize travel this year. It had been a few years since I’d taken an international trip, and I was feeling the travel bug. So this November, I spent an entire month traveling to Marfa, England, Scotland, and finally Costa Rica! (totally worth it, and I still found a way to do some work along the way!)
