The Project Scope
When Mark Jarvis and Micah Thornton Jarvis purchased Eikehof in 2023, they already knew just how special this property was. Construction began during the height of the Dutch East India Trading Company and was completed in 1841 by the property's original owners, the De Vos family. The sprawling estate nestled in the Breede River Valley has vineyards and a working farm, historic architecture and modern finishes. It's an actual dream.
But after hundreds of years and the transfer of ownership, the property had outgrown its older branding. We wanted to create a refreshed logo and website that would best represent the magic of staying at the farm for international guests and brides looking to have a destination wedding in South Africa.

The Challenge
W
e wanted to honor the rich history and its impact on the community over the years, while gently leading it into a new era, one that's just as beautiful as your stay there.
The main concern during this project was ensuring that we honored the reputation Eikehof had built over hundreds of years in the area. The architecture is historic, the property is lush and well-kept, and the staff is dedicated. But the brand felt a bit old and kitschy. Plus, no one on our creative team is Dutch OR South African.
So establishing the creative direction required extensive research as we sought out a more modern representation that still honored the tradition of the property.
Art Direction
We researched dozens of typography styles and modern typography trends to find a style that had the detailing and personality of the original identity, but with an international flourish that would appeal to a larger audience.
We also worked with the existing crest shape, which is actually designed to match the shape of the gable of the Manor House, but simplified the detailing in order to modernize the identity. Eikehof also means 'acorn' in dutch, so we added in some vintage-inspired illustration and acorn detailing to give the property a luxurious feel while continuing to honor its history.
We also wanted to keep the Dutch blue, but give it a fresh look and feel. Plus, this dusty gentle blue pairs so nicely with the greenery and nature of the photography from Eikehof. Win-Win!

The Identity
Beyond the refresh of the identity, we also created an entirely new digital home for the property that featured each unique cottage on the property, as well as all of the features and amenities of the working farm, which adds to the overall charm of your stay.
Eikehof is also a popular destination wedding venue, and wanted to highlight its compatibility for small, luxurious events for brides looking for a romantic, breathtaking location for their celebration.

Eikehof is a place that has so much soul and is so special to us, we knew that capturing its essence and translating it into a website would be a challenge. Having been a fan of Kadie's work for years I knew there was no one better for the job. At first we struggled with the idea of changing the logo because we were attached to it as a part of our brand but ultimately once we saw Kadies interpretation we were OBSESSED! I love the way she brought our vision to life in a modern, yet timeless way while staying true to our roots. I think our new website truly gives viewers a glimpse into the enchanting world of Eikehof and we couldn’t be more proud to show it off.
